Molecular Lab COVID-19 Testing Site

Why ATCG-Lab is Different.

Our test has a "triple-check" to detect the virus and potential variants.

We use three attachment points to tag the virus with our fluorescent markers during the testing process. This will detect the virus’s original and potentially new variant forms.

Your results are reviewed by a lab technician and not a computer.

Other labs may rely on automated testing overseen by a computer, but our process ensures a qualified lab technician reviews and verifies every test result.

We use anterior nasal swabs low in the nose for enhanced comfort.

The virus inhabits the nose and throat. We collect an effective sample from low in the nose with enhanced comfort by avoiding deep nasal swabbing. This swabbing method is just as accurate as any of the swabs you may have experienced before.

EUA approved per FDA and CDC guidelines.

The FDA, CDC, and EAU set standards for approved Covid testing for airlines and other travel providers. A negative test result from ATCG-Lab can be used for travel. Each assay we perform is EUA approved per FDA and CDC guidelines.

Compliant with airline requirements when travelling domestically and abroad (we recommend checking with your specific destination prior to booking an appointment).

How is the Anterior Nasal Swab Administered?

Accurate detection of the virus in a covid PCR test means collecting a virus sample from sites in the body where the covid-19 virus thrives – the nose and throat.

Nasal Swab Sample Collection for Comfort
We collect our sample with an anterior nasal swab – lower down in the nose, so there is less discomfort for the person taking the covid-19 PCR test.

Sample Tested Onsite in a Molecular Lab for Same Day Results
The swab is sealed into a testing tube to avoid contamination and then passed to our onsite molecular lab for Covid testing near same day results.

What is a PCR Test?

ATCG Covid Lab 1
ATCG Covid Lab 3

You want to go to a Covid testing site that uses molecular PCR testing or RT-PCR testing, often known as PCR testing. PCR means Polymerase Chain Reaction. It refers to amplifying a DNA sample and then tagging it so you can accurately detect the presence of a virus, in this case, Covid-19, from the small sample taken with an anterior nasal swab.

Why is Getting Tested with a Lab Onsite More Accurate?

A lab onsite means your sample is collected and taken straight for testing. Other arrangements involve a time delay in taking your sample to the covid testing site which in many cases leads to contamination. We eliminate the delay and guarantee your test results come from the most accurate RT-PCR equipment for reliable same day covid testing. Call us to make an appointment at  (949)393-5600 or book an appointment

Frequently Asked Questions

Which test should I get? (15 Minute Antigen test vs. Molecular Test)

Antigen Test

These results can be used wherever a test is required that is NOT PCR (these could be concert venues, restaurants, conferences, etc.).  Results ready in approximately 15 mins.

Molecular Test

Pros:

  • Highly accurate and sensitive in giving a positive or a negative test result.
  • Takes between 3-8 hrs to complete

Cons:

  • Need to test in a Professional Laboratory

How Does the Lab Test a Sample/Swab?

The treated sample is processed in an RT-PCR testing machine that puts it through heating and cooling cycles. This cycle triggers the specific chemical reactions to create and tag copies of the viral DNA. Each cycle doubles the amount of viral DNA – a process known as amplification.

Then, every copy of the viral DNA strand is tagged, and the marker releases a fluorescent dye. When the dye is present and the sample reaches a trigger level, you have a positive COVID-19 test.

The technician will record the amount of dye and the number of cycles taken to highlight the severity of the infection.

Benefits of RT-PCR Test

The main benefits of the RT-PCR test for detecting COVID-19 and mutant variant of COVID-19 are:

  • Speed of test enables same-day results in many cases.
  • Highly sensitive and explicitly identifies the virus.
  • A sealed tube means less potential contamination and fewer errors.
The gold standard when it comes Covid testing.  If work, travel, or another engagement requires a PCR Covid test, ATCG’s PCR covid test will satisfy these requirements.

Why are Molecular Tests (RT-PCR) Best?

The RT-PCR test amplifies DNA samples to detect the presence of COVID-19 better. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR) is a process of tagging target DNA with a material that emits a fluorescent dye. The amount of this dye gives an identification of the presence and severity of the virus.

The gold standard when it comes Covid testing.  If work, travel, or another engagement requires a PCR covid test, ATCG’s PCR covid test will satisfy these requirements.

What are COVID-19 "Mutant" Strains?

A mutation is nothing more than a change in the genetic code of a plant, animal, or virus. The virus life cycle is rapid, causing mutations to occur more frequently than a longer-lived animal like an elephant.

The change can be tiny – if an elephant’s ears are 1mm bigger than its parents, you will not notice, but a shift in a microscopic virus is more pronounced. Currently, the UK, South Africa, and Brazil have detected an identifiable mutant variant of Covid-19.

What Kind of Test is Required to Travel?

Before making travel arrangements, check with your travel company and destination for the precise COVID-19 testing rules and time scales. Different states and countries have slightly different regulations.

The RT-PCR test is a nucleic acid amplification test (NAATs), which is the preferred viral test for FDA, CDC, and EAU for travel.

Each assay we perform is EUA approved per FDA and CDC guidelines. Compliant with airline requirements when travelling domestically and abroad (*we recommend checking with your specific destination prior to booking an appointment).

How Long Before Traveling Do You Need to Take the Test?

Most airlines require a negative Covid-19 test within 1-3 days of travel. To protect yourself and others from infection, maintain sensible precautions before and after your negative test result. Check with your airline to see their COVID policy before booking any appointments. (*we recommend checking with your specific destination prior to booking an appointment).
